Echolight – audiovisual walk

On Thursday evening, April 10, we invite you to a unique audiovisual walk through the streets of Bydgoszcz. Echolight, as we have named this journey, full of music and animation, is a novelty at the Animocje festival. At 8:00 PM, we will set off from the City Center of Culture in Bydgoszcz. Our route will take us under the Solidarność Bridges, past the Opera Nova and Mill Island, and along the Młynówka Canal, stopping at the Jaz Farny, the Lemara Barge, and the nearby Granaries. From there we will head to the Mózg club with a quick stop at the Toniebajka bookstore window.

However, this will not be just an ordinary walk. During each of these stops, we will experience mini-mappings of urban spaces, often in unexpected places. The visual part will be handled by representatives from two universities—students and lecturers from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (ASP) and the University of the Arts in Poznań (UAP). Expect a full range of animated possibilities, from simple, calm, monochromatic visualizations to vibrant, colorful, fast-paced animated films filled with unexpected twists. These won’t just be films projected onto walls. The fundamental idea of mapping is to integrate urban infrastructure elements into the projections, making them an integral part of the animation and sometimes even the main character of the story.

The experience will be enhanced by music perfectly suited for the visuals. You can expect instrumental loops, pulsating rhythms, a calm and unhurried narrative, but also sudden, dramatic shifts in tempo that complement the stories unfolding before your eyes. This aspect will be curated by: Szymon Szwarc/swrcfx – guitarist, composer, producer, and sound engineer known from bands such as Jesień, Wesele, and Rozwód and Artur Maćkowiak – musician and cultural animator, performing solo, with the band you.Guru, and in various ephemeral musical projects

The grand finale of this one-hour city walk will be Anibattle—an evening concert by both musicians at Mózg club, accompanied by a visual battle of animations. Representatives from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and the University of the Arts in Poznań will face off in this ultimate animation showdown. During the concert, you will hear the same compositions that accompanied the walk, but this time performed live in completely new, concert-style arrangements. After the animated battle, expect the unexpected, as the animators will have free rein to unleash their creativity without any limitations—except those of their own imagination. And the best part? It’s all free of charge!
