Mamoon

Inspired by the horrific plight of refugees fleeing Syria’s civil war, Mamoon follows the story of a mother and child, whose lives descend into darkness when the moon mysteriously loses its light. They become engulfed by shadows, and the mother must work out how to save her child using a mysterious red light.

The film is a portrait of old age, love and helplessness. Grandma, now no longer able to take care of herself, is forced to leave her comfortable apartment just a couple days before Christmas. She finds herself stranded at the geriatric unit in a hospital. This, however, is only meant to be a short term stay.

“Dead Reckoning? is a ride around Vienna’s Ringstrasse boulevard and from there to go into the city, to fall, to eat, and finally to end up on the toilet. Death is always there, always in front of us. The film follows the cycle of life, the rhythm of the city. The British-Austrian duo of Susan Young and Paul Wenninger works with animation and stop-motion technology. The filming locations show how Vienna has been influenced by cultures from around the world. An animated skeleton symbolizes the morbid humor of the Viennese and even appears as a grumpy waiter?
